It’s the Pareto principle – or, better known as the 80/20 principle.

First, I want to share a little more of the history here so you and truly appreciate exactly what you are about to learn.

In 1906, Vilfredo Pareto (an economist in Italy) realized that 20% of the pea pods he’d planted were producing 80% of the peas. That’s a pretty spectacular observation. As you’ll soon see, what Mr. Pareto observed about pea pods directly relates to so much in your life and business. Mr. Pareto also noted that 80% of the land in his native Italy was owned by 20% of the population. I’m sure you can relate that to where you live in today’s time.

It wasn’t until 1941 that a man named Joseph Juran took an interest in what Pareto had observed and realized just how universal the principle is. Juran was very interested in quality and efficiency. He, too, observed what Pareto observed. He named this observation “Pareto’s Principle of Unequal Distribution.” It is also called the “law of the vital few,” the “principle of factor sparsity,” and, as I’ll refer to it, the 80/20 principle.
